The greatest challenge of the day is: how to bring about a revolution of the heart, a revolution which has to start with each one of us?
Both alternatives are unacceptable to me as a Catholic American. I cannot vote for either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton, has endorsed Bernie Sanders, regardless of whether a vote for Bernie is practical.
"I you can't vote your conscience in the primaries," Reich said in a television interview, "then when can you?"
I believe Bernie Sanders is the only decent candidate running for President. I voted for him in the Louisiana primary; and as they say in Oklahoma, I will continue to support him "until the last dog dies."
Catholics must vote for Bernie in the Midwestern primaries, including the Michigan primary election being held today. It is true he is pro-choice; but so are Hillary and Donald Trump. I am opposed to abortion on demand, but I see now that politicians on both sides of the abortion issue have distracted Americans for years while both Democratic and Republicans office holders conspired to destroy the middle class and make life easy for the oligarchy.
We must let abortion go and vote for the only decent man who has a shot at becoming President. I look to Dorothy Day as my guiding star as to how we should live in this secular, postmodern age. Dorothy would vote for Bernie, I feel certain. Let's all do likewise.
